About 4-Term Pathway - Foundation Certificate for Business, Law, and Social Sciences - Transfer to Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Philosophy and Italian
Program Description
Build a future by studying in the UK, with a pathway course at Kaplan International College (KIC) London. Situated in the world’s top academic city (QS Best Student Cities 2019), the College will prepare students for a university degree, and for a successful career.
Study at one of the most respected international colleges in London, and progress to one of 8 universities, including the University of Bristol.
The University of Bristol is a highly ranked Russell Group university with a fantastic reputation. Students will join a global community of students from more than 150 countries, and enjoy life in one of the UK’s most exciting cities.
This course combines philosophy with study of Italian and provides a valuable skill set ideally tailored to the increasingly globalised workplace. Both the Department of Philosophy and the School of Modern Languages encourage strong synergy between research and teaching, resulting in a vibrant learning environment for students as staff respond to new research.
Italian language and culture have had a lasting impact on Europe, while today, Italy's innovative contributions to design, technology and fashion make it a major global commercial force. Italy is both traditional and modern – a tension that is apparent throughout its history and culture.
Students will spend their third year abroad studying or working, which will enable them to refine their language skills and cultural understanding. For further details of year abroad opportunities visit Global Opportunities.
In each year students will take an equal number of credits in Italian and philosophy. For philosophy students will study units covering introduction to philosophy, logic, and realism and normativity.
In the first year of philosophy students will gain a grounding in the fundamentals of philosophy through two mandatory introductory units – one exploring issues in epistemology and metaphysics, and the other concerning moral and political philosophy. Students will also take a unit in critical thinking and logic.
In year two students complete their foundation in philosophy with mandatory units and conduct more detailed study in topics ranging from ethics to philosophy of language.
In the final year students may undertake an independent study unit on almost any topic in philosophy, writing an extended essay in consultation with a supervisor. Final-year taught units relate to the research interests of staff in areas ranging from global justice to philosophy of physics.
