About 2-Term Pathway - Foundation Certificate for Science and Engineering - Transfer to Master of Science - Biochemistry
Program Description
Build a future by studying in the UK, with a pathway course at Kaplan International College (KIC) London. Situated in the world’s top academic city (QS Best Student Cities 2019), the College will prepare students for a university degree, and for a successful career.
Study at one of the most respected international colleges in London, and progress to one of 8 universities, including the University of Bristol.
The University of Bristol is a highly ranked Russell Group university with a fantastic reputation. Students will join a global community of students from more than 150 countries, and enjoy life in one of the UK’s most exciting cities.
The centrepiece of the MSci Biochemistry degree is an extended research project that allows students to develop in-depth expertise in an area of specialism and acquire the skills required to embark on a research career. The MSci covers all the major aspects of biochemistry, with an emphasis on cutting-edge research.
The first two years of the MSci are identical to the BSc. Students can tailor the course to suit their interests across all years by combining the study of biochemistry with a choice of subject options.
In the first year these include anatomy, pathology, microbiology, pharmacology and physiology. The second year combines biochemistry and molecular genetics with a choice of units covering topics such as neurophysiology, infection and immunity, mathematics and languages.
In the third year students will learn about a range of advanced topics in biochemistry and cell biology, and participate in a laboratory-based research training unit where they will develop the skills needed to define and solve research problems.
This prepares students for a research-intensive fourth year, where they will spend up to 16 weeks on an individual research project under the supervision of a research group leader.
Students will learn about the context in which scientific research is undertaken through the Science and Society unit and complete their studies by choosing two advanced options, which could include Synthetic Biology, Cell Biology of Development and Disease, and Protein Assemblies and Molecular Machines.
