Program Description

This joint honours degree combines historical and theoretical study with practice-based investigations of theatre, film and television. There are opportunities to engage with industry professionals and to use the museum-accredited archive, the Theatre Collection.

In the first year students will attend lectures, seminars and workshops that will introduce them to analysing performance in a wide variety of forms. Students will also be introduced to a range of practical production skills in theatre and film.

In subsequent years students can choose units exploring significant historical movements, contemporary practices and theoretical concepts. The independent study project could be a group or individual performance, a short film, a dissertation, an extended essay or an industrial placement.

Students will have access to film-making equipment and editing suites and to the Wickham Theatre, where productions are presented and practical teaching takes place. Bristol also has strong links with theatres, arts centres and media companies.
