About 2.5-Term Pathway - Foundation Certificate for Science and Engineering - Transfer to Master of Science - Mathematics and Philosophy

Program Description

Build a future by studying in the UK, with a pathway course at Kaplan International College (KIC) London. Situated in the world’s top academic city (QS Best Student Cities 2019), the College will prepare students for a university degree, and for a successful career.

Study at one of the most respected international colleges in London, and progress to one of 8 universities, including the University of Bristol.

The University of Bristol is a highly ranked Russell Group university with a fantastic reputation. Students will join a global community of students from more than 150 countries, and enjoy life in one of the UK’s most exciting cities.

Linked by the formal study of logic, the two components of the course complement each other. Students will develop rigorous analysis and argument distinctive of the analytic philosophical tradition, while developing mathematical maturity to reason through subtle ideas in abstract mathematics.

There is also the opportunity to use mathematical knowledge in the study of the philosophy of biology, economics and physics.

The fourth year of the course allows students to explore mathematics and philosophy in depth, taking advantage of research-inspired, specialist units.

In the first year students will take 80 credit points of mathematics units in common with all other first year maths students, including linear algebra, topics in calculus and differential equations, analysis and an introduction to the ideas of proof and group theory. In philosophy students will take 40 credit points in two mandatory introduction to philosophy units.

In year two, a unit in realism and normativity is compulsory, leaving much scope to tailor the rest of the year to personal interests. This continues in the third and fourth year, allowing students to choose a variety of units in both mathematics and philosophy. They will complete a philosophy project in the fourth year.
