Program Description

In the first year students will study subjects across the breadth of the biology related to human health and disease. This will provide a sound, broad background in biochemistry, cell and cancer biology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology and virology. Common first-year units have included Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Fundamentals of Body Function, and Normal and Tumour cells.

Second-year students will study molecular genetics and a range of biomedical sciences units, allowing them to pursue their interests as they develop. Students will also receive training in transferable and employability skills.

There is a strong emphasis on the development of practical skills and bespoke online resources are available to help students prepare for practical laboratory sessions in the first and second year. Students will also develop research skills to prepare them for a project in the third year.

In the final year students will choose options from a list of units that reflect research strengths and undertake a project in a related discipline.
