International Incorporated Bachelors (IIB) - Stage One - Continue to Master of Arts (Honours) - English and Film Studies

The International Stage One is the equivalent to the first year of a four year Scottish undergraduate degree. This program is designed to help students develop their academic knowledge and skills within their subject area. Students will also focus on improving their English academic literacy in preparation for continuing onto their chosen University of Dundee undergraduate degree. Studied across three terms, students will continue straight onto Year two of the degree course at the University once they have successfully completed the International Stage One.

The English and Film Studies degree teaches film origins, filmmaking techniques, and various genres. Students will explore classic Hollywood movies, art cinema, and filmmaking from around the world. They will develop skills in screenwriting, media production, and editing using specialist tools.

Students will also gain literacy study skills to enhance their understanding of how texts are adapted across various forms, including novels, films, and video games.

The English and Film Studies program equips students with the skills to understand visual media. They will learn how film is made, how to interpret it critically, and why it has had such a profound impact on the world.

Combining literary study with the study of film helps students develop skills in research and analysis, enabling them to express their ideas confidently and with style.

Students will analyze filmmaking techniques in lectures, seminars, and film screenings, learning about directors, performers, and other influential film figures.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to stretch their creative muscles in screenwriting and editing. They will read novels, poetry, and dramatic writing, and learn how to analyze both literary and visual texts.
