International Year One - Undergraduate Pathway - General (1-Semester Pathway) Transfer to Bachelor of Science - Legal Studies

International Year One is a supportive program that allows students to earn credits towards their degree while receiving additional academic, cultural and language support customized for international students.

Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of study at Illinois State University.

Bachelor of Science - Legal Studies

Students in Legal Studies, a major offered by the Department of Politics and Government, have access to significant opportunities for learning and growth, both as individuals and within the paralegal field as a whole. The Department of Politics and Government provides a variety of resources for Legal Studies majors, including internship opportunities, small class sizes, and instruction from full-time faculty or experienced practitioners teaching all levels of coursework.

The Legal Studies curriculum is designed to provide specialized knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment as paralegals. The learning objectives for the Legal Studies program include applying critical thinking; strengthening professional communication skills; enhancing legal research and writing skills; integrating computer skills in a legal setting; developing interviewing and investigation skills; and acquiring an understanding of the paralegal profession and its ethical obligations. Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public except as permitted by law. Students preparing for law school are encouraged to consult with the pre-law advisor to determine which courses are appropriate for their goals.
