About Bachelor of Science - Industrial Engineering (Co-op)

Program Description

Industrial engineering is the work of orchestrating the diverse elements of industry to help a company make the best possible use of time, human effort, production systems and financial and physical resources. If you were born with the hands of an engineer and the heart of a social scientist, this might be the career for you. The job of an industrial engineer is flexible and diverse, and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Hofstra University will prepare you for each new challenge. You'll be ready to develop production schedules, engineering specifications and other vital processes of manufacturing. You will learn to create management control systems that maximize the efficiency of financial planning and cost analyses, and quality control procedures to minimize costs and improve production.  And you will be capable of working directly with clients, vendors or internal staff members to discuss product specifications, production goals and the status of complex projects.

As part of the DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science (ranked #35 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for engineering programs that do not offer a doctoral degree), our industrial engineering students take advantage of an extraordinary array of sophisticated laboratory facilities. These include the Mechatronics Lab, the Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing Lab, the Computer Architecture, Embedded Systems and Mobile Computing Lab and 14 other engineering and computer science laboratories.
