About Bachelor of Science - Construction Engineering Technology
The Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology (BSConET) program educates and trains students for industrial positions that require a sophisticated, applied-technical orientation in building construction, engaging in construction project design, development, and management. The curriculum consists of an integrated sequence of undergraduate courses that emphasize the application of engineering and scientific knowledge, methods, technology, and management skills appropriate to the construction engineering technology discipline. Graduates of the program are capable of solving design and applied-engineering problems, as well as performing managerial, business, and sales functions.
Graduates of this program work in the construction industry as contractors, field supervisors, project managers, job superintendents, estimators, safety specialists, schedulers, and examiners. Their job responsibilities may include design, development, liaison, cost estimation, supervision, installation, testing, maintenance, and sales. The construction engineering technology profession offers substantial career opportunities, an excellent average starting salary, a very good median long-term salary, robust job growth, and significant career fulfillment. The demand for program graduates is expected to increase further as the $1 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is implemented over the next eight years.
This program is offered by the Lee Gildart and Oswald Haase School of Computer Sciences and Engineering (GHSCSE) at the Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, New Jersey. The BS in Construction Engineering Technology program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.
Faculty members maintain excellent communication with the industry and encourage students to gain industrial experience through cooperative education. Laboratory and industry-oriented project assignments complement lectures and recitations throughout the program, providing students with critical learning opportunities that are essential for their success in the workplace. Students work in state-of-the-art laboratories, and a capstone project based on an approved written proposal is required in the eighth semester for all students.
