Program Description

This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the Durham University International Study Centre located at Queen's Campus, in Stockton on Tees. After completing the pathway, students will progress into a program at Durham University. In an international foundation year students will study courses related to their intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance their skills as a student. This International Foundation Year provides the subject knowledge, language proficiency and study skills students need to progress to degree study at the Durham University, Durham City campus in a range of subjects related to science or engineering.

After completing this pathway, students will transfer to the MSci - Earth Sciences program. Earth Sciences is a four-year Masters degree course that has been designed to provide a comprehensive and rigorous education in all aspects of Earth Sciences with the opportunity to interact with staff at the cutting-edge of scientific research. It provides students with the opportunity to follow the Geology (F600) or Environmental Geosciences (F630) or Geophysics with Geology (F662) Geoscience (F643) for the first three years and undertake a detailed independent research project in the area of the students choice in the fourth year. If students have been accepted on the BSc degree course they can choose to transfer to the four-year MSci degree in Earth Sciences (F644) at the end of their second year. This will depend on the students' progress in the first two years.

It is suitable if students have a strong interest in research in the Earth Sciences, graduates from this course have secured PhD research positions at prestigious universities worldwide.
