About Foundation Program (Standard) (089916J) + Diploma of Film, Television and Animation (097894K) + Bachelor of Film, Television and Animation (095258K)

Program Description

The Deakin College Foundation Program is equivalent to upper secondary school (Year 12) and university foundation programs. It aims to prepare students for further study in a Deakin College Diploma or for entry into the first year of a selected Deakin University bachelor degree.

The course consists of either a standard or extended track program. The standard track program consists of eight academic units: five core units and three elective units. The extended track program has an additional four units.

Various support services focusing on language, literacy and numeracy assistance are also available to help students in their studies. Each unit includes four hours of classes per week. Assessment for all units is continuous and includes tests, assignments and case study analysis. Most units have a final two-hour examination. To graduate from the Deakin College Foundation Program, students must complete and pass all eight units in the standard program or 12 units in the extended program.

The Diploma of Film, Television and Animation is a unique course that provides a direct pathway into the second year of Deakin University’s Bachelor of Film, Television and Animation or Bachelor of Arts (major in Photography). Students gain a hands-on education using state-of-the-art technology within an inspiring creative arts environment.

In the Bachelor of Film, Television and Animation, students learn how to take a great story and shape it for film, TV and online platforms. Deakin’s Bachelor of Film, Television and Animation enables students to explore storytelling on screen through multiple roles and practices, while developing their communication and specialist skill set within the dynamic fields of screen production and screen culture.

Drawing from the expertise of teachers who are active and well-connected in industry, students will work collaboratively with like-minded students on real industry briefs. They will have access to industry-standard facilities and equipment including a high-definition television broadcast studio, digital cinema RED and Ursa cameras, sound studio, editing and grading suites and stop motion animation stations.

By the time students graduate, they will have a creative portfolio, budding professional network and invaluable industry knowledge to give them the competitive edge future employers are searching for.
