About 6 Weeks Pre-Sessional English + 3-Term Pathway - Incorporated Bachelor Year Zero in Life Sciences - Continue to Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Psychology
Students can get the perfect start to their degree at De Montfort University with the International Year Zero (IYZ). Students will take an extra year of study at De Montfort University International College (DMUIC) in order to complete a degree at DMU. Students who take the IYZ will continue to the first year of study of their chosen International Incorporated Bachelor's degree programme at DMU.
This delivery of the IYZ programme includes a six week pre-sessional English course immediately preceding entry to the programme. Throughout the pre-sessional English and IYZ programme, students will be supported at DMUIC. Students will have individual subject tutors who will make sure that they are on track to achieve their study goals. Students will be given feedback both in person and in writing so that they always know how they are doing, and how to improve. Students will also be assessed through regular tests and exams.
Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Psychology
This accredited degree course equips students with an understanding of theories and research about mind and behaviour, in line with current thinking and sector developments.
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and how it shapes and influences behaviour. On this course, students will explore human behaviour using sound scientific methodology – observation, measurement, and testing – to understand how and why people function in the way they do.
Gaining a professionally accredited psychology degree is an essential first step to a career as a psychologist or to move on to postgraduate study. Graduates thrive in careers where an understanding of societal issues is key – in criminal justice, education, social work, research, advertising, human resources and healthcare.
On the course students will study core areas including biological, cognitive, developmental and social psychology, and they will cover personality and intelligence, research methods, and historical perspectives. Students will also complete a work experience placement where they’ll see academic theory applied in practice.
