About Bachelor of Engineering - Electronic Systems Engineering (1094C) (Co-op)

Program Description

Students can design their future in this accredited Engineering degree program and discover the exciting and ever-changing world of electronic systems engineering - software, hardware, and embedded systems integration. It will start them down the path to pursuing a professional engineering career through licensing with Professional Engineers Ontario. There is a need in the market for highly qualified personnel able to work at the interface between the software and hardware that form the basis of Canada's innovation economy. The program is geared toward motivated individuals looking for rewarding careers in software engineering, electronics engineering, computer engineering, product development, machine learning, artificial intelligence, aerospace, internet networking, cyber security, internet-of-things, robotics and the next generation of smart devices and technology. This program is ideally suited for makers, tinkerers and analytical thinkers.

This Honours-level Bachelor of Engineering program is a project-based learning environment where students will apply engineering and project management principles to solve real-world problems. They will develop the engineering skills to be job-ready to analyze, design and build the systems and products of tomorrow. Over the four years of the program, students will build their software and electronics engineering know-how and tackle many hands-on projects, leading to an open-ended capstone design project where they will investigate, design, implement and prototype a solution to an important societal problem.

Students can expand their leadership and teamwork skills as they work on group-based projects throughout the program. They will participate in a total of twelve months of co-op to gain valuable experience for their career. Co-op work terms are strategically scheduled to allow students to apply what they learn in the classroom, and the hours they work in industry gaining credit towards their Professional Engineers Ontario work experience requirements. Students have opportunities for both co-op and post-graduate jobs at high profile companies both domestic and international. Small class sizes allow them to get to know their Professors and classmates.

Students can follow their curiosity in Conestoga College's state of the art facilities and find their place along the bench where they will discover specialized tools and software. Students will learn programming languages and design in the latest CAD environments. Then bring their ideas to life in labs featuring the latest high-tech equipment like oscilloscopes, signal generators, 3D printers and rapid prototyping platforms.

This program has been accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) of Engineers Canada. Graduating from this program satisfies the academic requirements needed to apply for a license as a professional engineer in Canada. Students can join graduates who work for high-profile local and multinational tech companies, in careers such as software development, hardware design, electric vehicles, medical devices, internet networking, smart manufacturing, and wearables and sensors. They can also choose to further their education at the graduate level (Masters, PhD) or other post-graduate opportunities.
