Integrated Masters - Master of Optometry (B512)

The integrated master’s program provides students with the clinical skills, theoretical knowledge, and patient contact necessary for a successful career in optometry. Students become acquainted with various aspects of optometric care, such as general eye examination, spectacle dispensing, contact lens fitting, binocular vision disorders, low vision, abnormal color conditions, and pediatric optometry. They also learn how to confidently and autonomously manage a wide range of optical and medical eye problems.

Throughout the program, students participate in an extended clinical placement organized by the College of Optometrists. This placement allows them to experience the life of a working optometrist and take on greater responsibility for patient care. Additionally, students have the opportunity to observe and work in the in-house specialist eye clinics led by the multi-disciplinary eyecare team, which helps them refine their clinical skills.

The program incorporates opportunities for students to achieve selected higher qualifications from the College of Optometrists, preparing them for expanding roles and future changes in the profession. It establishes a strong foundation for further specialist postgraduate clinical or research career pathways and equips students to address lifelong learning, leadership, and professional development challenges, enabling them to excel in modern UK optometric practice.

Upon completion of the program, students will have completed at least 48 weeks of learning in clinical environments and will be eligible to register and practice independently as optometrists in the UK.
