About Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Countering Terrorism and Extremism (L441)
Students will unpack the complex world of terrorism, extremism, and security in a course designed for curious, critical minds. At Canterbury Christ Church University, they will dive into headline-making cases and investigate deeper issues that often go unnoticed—such as questions of identity, inequality, power, and politics—that shape how societies respond to threats.
From the global shockwaves of 9/11 to today’s fast-evolving risks, this course helps students make sense of the changing landscape of terrorism. They will explore how governments and communities react, what influences their decisions, and what occurs when policy meets real-world challenges. Topics will include international relations, ethics, risk, community resilience, and policing powers, all examined through a lens that is both critical and applied.
What sets this course apart is its hands-on approach. Students will engage in practical simulations, such as the cutting-edge Hydra Suite, tackle real case studies, and develop skills that extend beyond textbooks. They will work alongside experts, including current and former professionals in counterterrorism and extremism, who bring real-world insight directly into the classroom.
Built on CCCU’s strong foundation in policing and security education, this degree encourages students to question everything, debate ideas in a collaborative environment, challenge the status quo, and connect with peers and staff from diverse backgrounds, including sociology, criminology, law, forensic investigation, and politics.
Whether students are interested in pursuing careers in policing, intelligence, research, security, media, or specialist counterterrorism units, this course provides the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to make a real impact.
Recognizing that employers seek dynamic, open-minded graduates who can adapt, innovate, and collaborate, the program is designed to ensure that students are work-ready upon graduation.
