About Academic Accelerator - Bachelor of Arts - Philosophy

The Academic Accelerator Program is a two-semester program designed specifically for students who are ready to succeed in immersive English-speaking classrooms, but who also want the benefit of English-language and student support that will help them thrive. The program curriculum offers a balance of university-wide and AAP-exclusive courses, with English-language course supplements that equip students with the practical, subject-specific vocabulary and skills that they need to excel in their coursework. Upon completion of the program, students progress into year two of their undergraduate education with a full year’s worth of academic credits.

The study of philosophy is excellent preparation for graduate study, professional school, seminary, and any career path in which clear thought and expression are valued. It cultivates skill in clear thinking and writing, in logical criticism, and it increases the power and discipline of the imagination. But more importantly, the study of philosophy is of intrinsic value. Philosophy deepens and intensifies engagement with fundamental questions regarding the self, others and the world that arise in everyday life.

The Philosophy Department at Auburn pursues the study of philosophy both historically and analytically, exposing students to the great philosophers and philosophies of the past and of the present. The Department teaches high standards of reading and writing and conversation. It expects students to become adept at criticizing the view of others and their own views. Relevant lessons are taught in the classroom, in informal discussion, in colloquia and in the Philosophy Club. The Department sees its faculty and students as philosophers working together to become better philosophers.
