About Bachelor of Arts - Biology - Environmental Justice

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program in Biology with a concentration in Environmental Justice examine the interdisciplinary nature of the life and physical sciences, social sciences, and moral theories as they are applied to environmental systems and health, focusing on the intersections of these disciplines.

Students develop a foundation in key principles of biology, including cell theory, ecosystem dynamics, energy exchange, and genetics. The program's organization and flexibility allow students to simultaneously study another subject outside their major.

Students gain hands-on experience advocating for marginalized communities that often experience disproportionate impacts from inequitable environmental policies. They work in small groups and one-on-one with individual faculty members to practice communication and advocacy skills. Additionally, students may participate in advanced scientific research by assisting in faculty research laboratories, and they have opportunities to publish in top journals and present their results at regional and national scientific meetings.
