About Grade 9 - Boarding

Program Description

In grade 9, students explore the arts, Canadian and world studies, classical studies, international languages, health and physical education, mathematics, native languages, native studies, fundamentals of sciences, social sciences and humanities, and technological education.

The Upper School (Grade 9 & 10) strives to provide a breadth of experience for our students, from our academic and co-curricular programme, to experiential trips at our S. Bruce McLaughlin Northern Campus in Temagami. Students have a multitude of opportunities to establish their identity, both their own and within their school community. The confidence that students gain leaves them well prepared for the challenges ahead.

With a rich curriculum, the focus is on character education. The academic blocks take the place of traditional December exams to create meaningful course assignments. At Appleby College, students have a rich choice of electives ranging from Arts to World Languages, they partake in innovative collaboration through a digital learning environment. English is studied in small classes at an oval table (the Harkness table) to encourage dialogue and discussion among their peers.

Appleby offers an Advisor Programme, where advisors work with students, their parents, their teachers, and school directors to encourage, guide and provide support to students.

A co-curricular passport (the guide for students in choosing co-curricular options over the course of their Appleby experience), workshops, and conferences to develop leadership skills, as well as Intercultural learning, international exchange, outdoor, and experimental education, are available for students at Appleby College.
