Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the China Excellence Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a Chinese citizen residing in China, eligible to pay overseas tuition fees.
- Hold a conditional or unconditional offer for any full-time, in-person postgraduate master’s programme at the University of Southampton.
- Have achieved a first-class honours degree or an equivalent qualification from a tier A or B university.
- Pay the tuition fee deposit by Thursday 15 January 2026.
Residency is defined as living in China for at least three years prior to the course start date, excluding periods spent living elsewhere for study purposes.
Scholarship Value and Conditions
- The scholarship awards a £5,000 reduction on the first year’s tuition fees.
- If recipients hold or become eligible for another University of Southampton scholarship, the China Excellence Scholarship value will be adjusted to 50% of its original amount. The combined scholarships cannot exceed 100% of tuition fees.
- The scholarship is limited to the first 150 eligible applicants who meet all criteria and pay their deposit by the deadline.
Application Process
- No separate application is required. Eligible students will be automatically considered and notified by email if awarded the scholarship.
