About Sea to Sky School District 48 (SD48) - Pemberton Secondary School

Pemberton Secondary School is located approximately 35 km North of Whistler. Our school has approximately 300 students, 21 teaching staff, and 11 support staff. Approximately 45% of our students are from the Lil’wat, Nquatqua, Samahquam, Skatin, and Xaxtsa nations. Many of our students travel by bus from distant areas including D’Arcy, Pemberton Valley, and the Upper Lakes area.

Why Pemberton Secondary School

  • Course variety: Pemberton has an array of program offerings to meet the individual needs of our students. Some of our programs include academic, online, vocational, adult, Outdoor Adventure Leadership,  Lifeskills, and sports. As well, Pemberton Secondary School has wireless internet connectivity and a student-to-computer ratio of 2:1.
  • Location: Pemberton, with a population of over 2,500, lies 20 minutes north of Whistler. Pemberton sits in a wide valley surrounded by mountains, which makes it consistently warmer than Whistler. One of the most prominent features in the Pemberton area is the 8,000-foot Mount Currie. Its looming presence is perhaps the most notable feature in a valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Organic farming has been the traditional industry of the Pemberton Valley and continues to be a significant contributor to the local economy.
  • Athletic activities: Pemberton sports teams include soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Frequently PSS is represented at Provincial tournaments. Many students also compete in individual sports including luge, alpine skiing, downhill skiing, dragon boating, and cross-country running. Each year the sports program continues as a result of the endless volunteer hours from staff and community members, and from the desire of Pemberton players to excel in these sports.
