About Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS) - St. Joseph High School
St. Joseph High School is located in the eastern quadrant of the city. With a population of approximately 1050 students throughout grades 9-12, it offers a comprehensive program for students. St. Joseph is ideally located right next door to the SaskTel Soccer centre which houses a full sized indoor soccer centre. After the school opened, it was decided, with the help of the Meewasin Valley Authority and Superintendent Dick Niemen, that the schoolyard would be reclaimed as natural prairie. This remains a unique feature of the school today.
Why St. Joseph High School
- English as an Additional Language: At St. Joseph High School, EAL students are provided with a variety of opportunities to develop their English. The content is individualized with a balanced emphasis on speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
- Unique support for students: The implementation of Teacher Guardian Groups (TGGs) is a defining program at St. Joseph. Every student is assigned to a "homeroom" teacher for his or her entire high school career. The TGGs, which meet daily, are designed to build closer Christian relationships between a staff member and a class of students.
- Extracurricular activities: St. Joseph offers extensive after-school and noon-hour programs including intramural and citywide athletics, music, art and drama clubs as well as social groups.
