About California State University - Dominguez Hills

Amazing Alumni:

California State University - Dominguez Hills' international students and alumni have made a significant impact both in the United States and around the world. Graduates of CSUDH have excelled in diverse fields, from law and politics to sports and entertainment. Notable alumni include Superior Court Judge Scott M. Gordon (BS, 1980), Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (MA, 1990), and California State Senator Steven Bradford (BA, 1985), who have each contributed to shaping public policy and leadership in the U.S. On the global stage, CSUDH has produced Olympic gold medalists such as sprinter Carmelita Jeter (BA, 2006), whose achievements have brought international acclaim.

The university has also welcomed international students who have gone on to achieve extraordinary success in their careers, exemplifying the global reach of a CSUDH education. Many have joined leading multinational companies, including Amazon, SailPoint, and CDK Global, growing into leadership roles and making a meaningful impact worldwide. Others remain connected to CSUDH and the California State University system, contributing their expertise while advancing the skills and knowledge they developed during their studies.

Studying at CSUDH equips international students with the confidence, skills, and global perspective needed to make a meaningful impact—not only in the U.S., but anywhere in the world

Service Learning:

At California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), learning goes beyond the classroom—students turn knowledge into action. Through the award-winning Service Learning, Internship, and Civic Engagement program, students integrate academic learning with meaningful community service, gaining real-world experience while making a tangible impact on local communities.

CSUDH’s commitment to service has earned national recognition. In 2016, the university received the Presidential Award for Community Service from President Barack Obama, following five consecutive nominations. CSUDH President Thomas Parham serves on Jumpstart’s national board, and the program’s site manager was honored as National Site Manager of the Year in 2022.

Each year, CSUDH students contribute over 100,000 hours of service, partnering with organizations such as SLICE, Jumpstart, College Corps, the Career Center, and faculty-led initiatives. Collaborations with institutions like the Los Angeles Unified School District help prepare high school students for college and support their long-term career success.

For international students, CSUDH’s service-learning programs provide a unique opportunity to engage with diverse communities, apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings, and develop leadership and professional skills with global relevance. At CSUDH, students don’t just learn—they create meaningful change that resonates locally and worldwide.

STEM Education:

California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) has emerged as a national leader in STEM education, combining innovation, access, and real-world impact. At the heart of this effort is the Center for Innovation in STEM Education (CISE), partially supported by the Annenberg Foundation. CISE serves as a regional and national think tank, addressing disparities and expanding opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Over the past decade, CSUDH has credentialed more science and mathematics teachers in California than any other university, underscoring its critical role in shaping the state’s STEM workforce. Several faculty members have also earned NSF grants in STEM disciplines, contributing cutting-edge research and mentorship that directly benefits students.

CSUDH further strengthens its STEM pipeline through the Toyota Center, which provides students from underrepresented communities the resources and guidance to pursue STEM education and careers. Complementing this, the university partners with STEM Advantage, a 2023 Nonprofit & Corporate Citizenship Awards honoree, to offer professional mentorship and competitive summer internship placements for juniors and seniors. These robust programs are reflected in the success of CSUDH alumni: more than 90% of international STEM graduates secure employment in U.S. corporations through the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, translating academic preparation into meaningful career outcomes.

Together, these initiatives highlight what makes CSUDH unique: a commitment to equity, innovation, and professional readiness in STEM, producing graduates who excel locally, nationally, and globally.

Dignity Health Sports Park:

On the 125-acre campus of CSU Dominguez Hills sits the world-class Dignity Health Sports Park, one of the premier athletic complexes in the United States. Recognized as an “Official U.S. Olympic Training Site,” the Sports Park is the nation’s most complete training facility for Olympic, amateur, and professional athletes. It features state-of-the-art venues for soccer, tennis, track and field, cycling, rugby, lacrosse, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, and more. As part of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28), CSUDH will play a central role as the Sports Park hosts five Olympic events on and around campus.

A major highlight is the soccer stadium, home of the LA Galaxy. Over the years, CSUDH students have had the unique opportunity to watch some of the world’s greatest players right on their campus—global icons such as David Beckham (England), Zlatan Ibrahimović (Sweden), Marco Reus (Germany), Javier “Chicharito” Hernández (Mexico), and Landon Donovan (USA). Few universities in the world can offer international students the chance to study just steps away from where champions compete and history is made.

For international students, this means more than just an excellent education—it’s a chance to live and learn in a place where Olympic athletes train, world champions compete, and the global spirit of sports is part of everyday life.

Affordability

For international students, CSU Dominguez Hills offers one of the best combinations of affordability and quality in the U.S. Ranked No. 2 in California for economic mobility and awarded a five-star value rating by Money.com, CSUDH delivers top-quality programs at one of the state’s lowest tuition costs. As the Los Angeles Times highlighted, the university is “one of the state’s most effective campuses in delivering top payoffs to low-income students,” with graduates quickly seeing returns on their investment. For students from abroad, that means access to a world-class education in Los Angeles—close to Hollywood, Silicon Beach, and major global industries—without the high cost often associated with studying in California.
