About Master of Arts - Film and Media Production - Extended

An Extended Master's helps international students get familiar with Master's study through a preparation phase in the summer before the main course starts. The MA Film and Media Production offers a unique blend of practical production skills, professional knowledge and academic study as well as opportunities for students to become a researcher in their own right. The University have designed the course to be taught through a combination of intensive workshop sessions, online interactive and self-directed teaching, as well as group and individual tutorials. The programme provides intensive instruction in cinematography, camerawork, sound recording and design, non-linear editing, scriptwriting, producing and directing.

The MA Film & Media Production is practically based but it should not be seen only as a vocational preparation. It includes an important theoretical component that is related to the practical side of the programme; theoretical issues are explored through practice and in complimentary modules. Throughout the course students' knowledge and skills will be informally assessed through a variety of learning activities. Students will be encouraged to engage in self-assessment and may be actively involved in peer assessment. Formally, the course is assessed solely through coursework, including portfolio work, reports, essays and presentations. Many graduates enter the media industries, frequently as trainees who will complete their technical training 'in-house.' The MA Film Production is also well suited to applicants who want to work as independent film makers or to go on to teach the subject.
