- The program integrates understanding of typical and atypical child development to prepare students to teach children across the learning spectrum.
- Cross-disciplinary coursework includes early childhood development, psychology, sociology, and teacher preparation.
- Rigorous professional preparation is provided through core theory, site-based observations, real-world fieldwork experiences, and two student-teaching semesters in area schools.
- The degree leads to diverse early childhood careers or Connecticut teacher certification with a focus in birth to age 5 or pre-kindergarten to grade 3.
Students enjoy placements with children in pre-k or kindergarten and then, depending upon areas of interest, complete another placement in either birth to pre-kindergarten or grades 1, 2, and 3. All programs help shape students' professional identify in early childhood education and develop the professional skills needed to succeed in the field.
International Pathway Program
Students should be advised that this is the Standard 2-Semester Pathway option for this program.
The International Pathway Program (IPP) is open to students who need to strengthen their English skills before studying a degree program in the USA. The IPP offers undergraduate students the additional support needed for their first year of university study. Students’ academic, social and personal success are ensured while in the program as they prepare to continue on to their degree.
Each semester students will take a combination of Hartford academic courses (credited) and English courses (non-credit). Course options are dependent upon the required pathway. Once students have reached the required English level, they can progress to their program at the University of Hartford.
