The High School at Vancouver Island University: New pathway to VIU programs + Adult High School Diploma

Our school partner The High School at Vancouver Island University (a grade 10-12 private high school that shares Vancouver Island University’s campus in Nanaimo) shared program updates with our team. Please keep reading for details.

1) High School Pathway to VIU programs *NEW*
  • Grades 10-12 are offered for each program on the school’s landing page on ApplyBoard:
    • Grade “X” – High School Pathway to Early Childhood Education
    • Grade “X” – High School Pathway to Culinary Management
    • Grade “X” – High School Pathway to Dental Hygiene
    • Grade “X” – High School Pathway to Engineering
2) Options for students over 18 years of age who are missing grade 12:
a) Adult International High School Diploma *NEW*
  • This program is intended for “non-graduated” students or students who have only graduated from grade 11. Applicants must be over 18. Students in this program will:
    • Obtain the Adult BC Dogwood High School diploma
    • Meet VIU English proficiency entrance requirements
    • Earn 3 Vancouver Island University credits
    • Develop skills for academic success
  • To complete this program in 8 months, students must have IELTS 5.5. Additional ESL support is available for students with IELTS 4.0-5.5 (ESL tuition is an additional $5,100 per semester/level of ESL required).
  • Note: Applicants cannot be graduates of a 4 year high school program (grade 12).
  • Interested applicants who are over 18 but with IELTS 6.0 or greater may consider the International Foundation Year – Pathway to VIU (see below).
  • Note that the school has had successful offshore applicants attend from India and other countries. Visas seem to be accepted because this program indicates a clear study plan.
  • This program is for students with minimum IELTS 6.0 and minimum 3 O-level subjects with a grade above “D” (or equivalent).
    • Sept 2019 intake: Applicants must be 18 years of age by December of intake year.
    • Sept 2020 intake: Applicants can be 16+ years of age by December of intake year.
  • The International Foundation Year at VIU is an 8-month program (September start). Students will attend up to 5 first-year university classes and be immersed in a university campus environment.
  • Students are guaranteed acceptance to Vancouver Island University’s degree programs.
  • Interested applicants who do not meet IELTS or academic requirements should consider the Adult International High School Diploma (see above).
